COLUMBUS, Ohio - A Columbus fire lieutenant was listed in critical condition early Sunday morning after collapsing while fighting a house fire late Saturday night.
Firefighters were battling a blaze in the basement of a home at 1831 Roberts Street at approximately 10:45 PM on Saturday when the lieutenant collapsed, spokesman Battalion Chief David Whiting said.
Crew members immediately came to his aid, got him out of the basement and initiated life-saving measures at the scene and en route to Riverside Methodist Hospital, Whiting said.
Upon arrival, Whiting says, the firefighters found the home occupied.
Fire crews were extinguishing the fire when a firefighter collapsed in the basement.
