NEW YORK/SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Facebook Inc shares opened 11 percent higher on Friday, after the pioneering online social network raised as much as $18.4 billion in one of the biggest initial public offerings in U.S. history.

Ohio unemployment inches down in April


COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio's unemployment rate fell for the ninth consecutive month, to 7.4 percent in April from 7.5 percent in March, according to data released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Same street, different day. For the second night in a row, Columbus police officers have exchanged gunfire with a suspect on S. Champion Avenue.
 
Police say a man opened fire on officers from a second-story window of a home at 1652 S. Champion Avenue after they chased him into the home just after 8:30 Thursday night.

Charter school official "ran amok" with funds


COLUMBUS, Ohio - A New Albany man who served as treasurer for charter schools in Columbus, Youngstown and Dayton faces up to 10 years in prison as the result of a plea-bargain with federal authorities who have charged him with embezzlement.
 
Carl Shye, Jr., 57, is accused of stealing federal funds from 10 charter schools over a six-year span from 2005 to 2011, according to US Attorney

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus police are looking for a 35-year-old man with a long criminal history who opened fire on officers on the city's Southeast Side Wednesday night. 
 
They say Richard Ward (above) fired on officers investigating a fight involving as many as 40 people at the intersection of S., Champion Avenue and Forest Street.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus is named one of the best cities in the nation for finding jobs in the tech industry. 
 
According to the Best Cities for Tech Jobs list released by "Forbes," Columbus finished eighth.
