COLUMBUS, Ohio - Curbside recycling will be a reality in Columbus in two years, Mayor Michael Coleman announced Wednesday.
After gathering public input online and on paper for months, Coleman announced that he is proposing that the city implement a curbside recycling program in 2012.
The program recommended by the mayo includes alternating bi-weekly collection of recycling and yard waste.
Recyclable material -- including paper, plastic, glass, and metal -- would be collected using a 65 gallon cart in the same areas as trash is currently collected, equating to curbside or alley service depending on neighborhood features, according to a release from the mayor's office.
The majority of people who responded to a survey favored collection every other week and preferred a wheeled cart as opposed to a tote, like what is offered with the current subscription program, the mayor's office said.
The mayor's office says an online survey was made available to all Columbus residents and a paper version of the survey was mailed out to a random sample of 1200 residents.
