COLUMBUS, Ohio - A bank robber used a fake bomb threat to hold up a Grandview-area bank Thursday afternoon, the FBI said.
The man, wearing a light-colored fishing hat and dark sunglasses, walked into the Cooper State Bank, 1669 W. Fifth Avenue, at 1:35 PM carrying a red book bag on his back and handed a teller a note indicating that he had planted a couple of bombs outside the bank and would set them off if the teller didn’t give him money, FBI Special Agent Harry Trombitas said.
The suspect put the money into the book bag and left.
The area was checked by police but no bombs were located, Trombitas said.
The suspect is was described as a in his mid-20’s to 30’s, 6’1”, with a thin build, clean shaven, wearing a light-colored fishing hat, dark sunglasses, long-sleeve dark blue shirt, and tan pants.
This was the Columbus area’s 28th bank robbery of the year.
